Heard the saying “It’s raining cats and dogs”? Well at Animal Allies it’s been raining puppies. In fact twenty one puppies have rained into our care in the last month. The first nine were delivered by Bromhof after we received a call to say their dog had been poisoned. On arrival Oscar realized that the dog was in labour and rushed her to Bromhof, where she underwent an emergency Caesar. Sadly mommy never made it but not before nine healthy puppies were delivered. Unfortunately one puppy died shortly after delivery and the remaining eight were hand raised by Animal Allies and Heidi from Bromhof Veterinary Clinic and Kirsten from Honeydew Veterinary Hospital. Well mom, you have produced the most beautiful puppies who have found loving homes. You can now R.I.P.image021 image020 image019

Our second litter of seven arrived with their mum, Stretchy. She was desperately sick and a sonar revealed an intussusception. She too underwent surgery and is recovering at Bromhof, while Oscar attends to her pups. Five puppies have been homed, one is going back to the owner and one desperately needs a home.

Our third mum also passed away, sadly before we were told about her plight and Oscar returned with six sickly pups. Hard work, antibiotics and constant care ensured their recovery. They are now three weeks old and will soon be looking for their forever homes. They will be small breed dogs, so please spread the word and let’s find them homes.

Katlehong is infested with mange. Oscar has set up dipping stations and twice a week he and his two assistants dip the dogs. The dip also helps with the elimination of ticks and fleas. His stations have become the talk of Katlehong and on arrival Oscar is met by hundreds of dogs and their guardians.

A big thank you goes to Marltons who heard our plea for help and kindly donated an amazing 500 bowls for the animals in the township. We cannot thank them enough as this will really help improve the lives of the animals, most of whom don’t have water bowls.

Congratulations to Charlmaine for winning our “wine and snacks” raffle. A big thank you goes to all who bought raffle tickets, and a bigger thank you to Ann, for donating the prize. An amazing R2 670.00 was raised.
